Cory Nakasue is a certified Pilates instructor and has a classical background, having studied with Jennifer DeLuca and Marie Grillo of Romana Kryzanowska's school and is certified by Susan Moran of Power Pilates. She has also studied contemporary technique with Annette Fletcher of Pilates Institute of America, in a program designed by Lolita San Miguel, one of two people in the world that Joseph Pilates himself certified. Cory teaches Pilates and Iyengar-based yoga at studios in Brooklyn and Manhattan. She has completed the professional training program at Abyhasa Yoga Center, under the direction of Jason Brown; an advocate of breath centered yoga therapy. She holds an MA in choreography and performance criticism from Middlesex University in London, England and choreographs for live events, film and video. She holds a BA in dance and theatre from University of California, Riverside and has extensive experience as an actor and director. As a movement coach for actors and dancers, her goal is to find and maximize a unique physical expression through movement; she hopes to bring this experience to her body work clients as well.
Cory teaches contemporary dance technique and choreography workshops in Los Angeles, New York City, and London, and is a USA Gymnastics safety certified coach. She was a competitive gymnast for several years and is a founding member and artistic director of SPINE, a multimedia/physical theatre production company.
She has trained employees and artists from the following companies: NYU Medical Center, The Wooster Group, Cynthia O'Connor and Company, Morgan Stanley, Stephanie Gilliland Dance Company, DanceParadigm, Regina Klenjoski Dance Company, Trinity Repertory Theatre, Lightbox, Dancenow/NYC, Collage Dance Theatre, Kooba, The Gamm Theater and many other schools, performance ensembles and corporations.
