On January 11th 2021, Dr Juan M Valdivia Valdivia MD., FAANS. neurosurgeon, successfully performed the first worldwide procedure with PERLA® in Tampa, FL, United States of America.

The PERLA® system allows to fuse from occiput to thoracic spine. After the procedure, a fusion from Occiput to C4, Dr. Valdivia noted that, « the Perla Occipital Plate is a user friendly system. The angle instrumentation was particularly useful to the success of the procedure”.

The PERLA® posterior occipito-cervico-thoracic fixation system is intended to provide immobilization and stabilization of spinal segments as an adjunct to fusion for the following acute and chronic instabilities of the cranio-cervical junction, the cervical spine (C1 to C7) and the thoracic spine (T1 to T3).
